Section 2
Diagnosis
2.1 Diagnosis
A consistent, high-quality process for evidence-based diagnostic assessment and monitoring is needed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in the Australian context.
2.2 Co-occurring conditions and differential diagnosis
It is important that clinicians are aware of which conditions commonly co-occur with ADHD, as the presence of a co-occurring condition may result in a missed diagnosis of ADHD, or a missed diagnosis of a co-occurring condition when ADHD symptoms are present.
2.3 Information needs after the diagnosis of ADHD
The opportunity to provide positive information after diagnosis can help mitigate stress experienced by families and individuals with ADHD, and reduce the stigma associated with the condition.
